I’m delighted to meet you. My name is Jeremy Garnett, and I am the owner and editor of Top End Editing.

I provide a hands-on editing service in a modern electronic world. Through the implementation of a combination of software, skill, and a high level of familiarity with the complexities of the English language, I work to ensure that you put your best words forward, gain a favourable place in the world of publication, and improve your own English skills along the way.

I’ve run Top End Editing since 2015, with 160+ clients and 200+ individual projects as of March 2024, including PhD and Masters theses, academic papers, governmental and corporate reports, magazines and individual articles, reference and textbooks, novels, and memoirs.

A published author and poet in my own right, through my work as an editor, I demonstrate a first-hand knowledge of the English language in many of its varieties, from colloquial to academic to narrative writing. I am well-versed in the practicalities of publication, including reference management, formatting, and submission processes.

Though I’ve only been working as a freelance copy-editor and proofreader professionally since 2015, I was previously employed as a Quality Assessor and Learning Platform System Administrator at a local university from 2011. I migrated to the department, following the phase-out of print-based materials, with which I had been working since 2009. Many of my previous jobs, whether of the mind or manual labour, have required high attention to detail, not the least Broccoli Pollinator - using tweezers.

Indeed, you could say I’m passionate about detail, especially of punctuation and grammar. I’ve been a voracious reader since I learnt that words contained meaning, and have been identifying spelling and grammar issues since my early teens. I don’t dare count the number of time I have been completely enthralled by a novel, swept up in the tale and imagery, when I spot a grammatical issue and snap back to reality.

As an editor, I delight in correcting grammatical issues before they ever get to the reader.

It has become a source of great satisfaction that I am able to aid my clients in navigating the complexities of English, and to improve their knowledge and adeptness in the language I know so very well.
